| Jay Mueller comes to Champion System this year after a two year hiatus from racing. He completed the first two years of his medical residency in emergency medicine at NYU and Bellevue Hospitals from 2004-2006, working up to 120 hours per week. Now with fewer hours in the hospital, he is ready to get back to cycling full time while finishing up his medical training.
Jay raced as a junior in Massachusetts and was two time junior regional time trial champion for all of New England in both the 15-16 and 17-18 categories and a top 20 finisher in the Junior Nationals Time Trial. He finished his junior career in 1995 and gave up on cycling after a brief stint in collegiate racing at Emory University. He focused on his pre-med studies, bodybuilding, and partying like a madman.
Jay started medical school at Mount Sinai in 1999. The cycling bug bit again in 2002 and Jay has been back at it since. He raced three full seasons, starting over as a Cat 5 and upgrading to Cat 2 in his first year back. He and Fernando Cuevas founded the Cuevas Junior/Espoir Development Team which last year merged with America\\\'s Cycling Team and started to coach some area juniors. He will dedicate every race he does to Fernando, who is currently battling cancer.
2007 should be a great year for Jay: he is getting married and getting his racing legs under him again. His goals are to help the team accrue some wins for the first half of the season and hopefully start to place in the second half. He would like to get back to NRC level competition and upgrade back to Cat 1.
